St. Bruno Catholic School claimed the Class S girls state championship for the second year in a row on Saturday at the SIJHSAA Cross Country State meet in Salem, Illinois. The Lady Falcons placed 4 runners inside the top 10 and all 7 of their runners in the top 23. They were led by individual state champion Gabrielle Alongi who finished with a time of 11:52, beating the state meet record by 14 seconds. Lady Falcons Laney Beltz (3rd), Dakota Krone (5th) and Grace Alongi (8th) joined her in the top ten. Runners Kenzie Rushing (11th), Olivia Phillips (13th) and Lily Tanner (23rd) completed the team in the field of 198 runners. St. Bruno won the championship with a team score of 26 – 62 places better than 2nd place St. Joseph Olney.
John Alongi was the top finisher for the St. Bruno boys cross country team receiving 14th place with a time of 11:38. Alongi was followed by teammates Jonah Tanner (60th), Ethan Baggett (120th), Will Epplin (132nd), Gage Krone (136th), James Robb (166th), and Jonah Winter (214th). The boys team finished in 14th place out of 29 teams. Great job Falcons!
